Ted Young. When we were looking for a new house, I had one requirement - an oversize garage. My garage is 28 ft deep and I created a 10 by 10 workshop for the lathe. My wood storage is in a shed outside the garage. I used to keep 2 cars in the garage, but gave one to my son and now use half the garage for woodworking. A key point is that I have to keep the garage clean so it doesn't track into the house. The 2 hp Penn State dust collector helps with the cleanups.

Norm Hinman has his shop in a large barn next to his house. It's treasure trove of equipment, wood, and bowl blanks. Dust control is achieved by opening both ends - there is always a breeze.

At left, the East Wing and the West Wing. Below, the VB 36 lathe, the Woodcraft lathe, and some of the pieces of wood that are always around.

Martin Harris saw his first woodturning demonstration in June, 2007 and rushed home to set up a workshop in his basement. Starting with a Jet Mini he later added a Nova DVR XP, the biggest lathe we could get down the stairs!.

The basement measures 14' x 11" x 6'2" and provides a nice all-year temperature of 65-72oF. This space is shared with the water heater, central-air system, and a large number of boxes of "things" that my daughter cannot fit into her 600 sq. ft. Manhattan apartment.
