Vinny is a passionate artist and student of form. Vinny has a working understanding of it, honed from observation of various historical and cultural references. It is not unusual to hear him speak of fractals and recurring ratios in nature. He has spent many years acquiring skills beyond the scope of woodturning, in order to produce art that has more impact and expression. He uses skills such as pyrography, scorching, branding, texturing, pigments, dyes and finishes to produce his results. Vinny is recognized nationally in Woodturning Symposia, teaching in demonstrations, and is also, currently, president of the local American Association of Woodturners club: Pikes Peak Woodturners.
Class will be held in Placerville at Gail's house - address will be provided to attendees.
Please bring lunch, snacks, drinks, etc. (it's a drive into town from her place).
Supplies for Class:
You should bring closed pored pieces of wood to practice patterns on and some squares - 4 per person, 6 inch-ish. Plus bring whatever piece already turned that you would like to embellish. Small bowls, boxes vessels even platters.
Micro carvers are what are used for the carving. Bring any rotary carver as long as they have bits that fit it. Small ball burrs stump cutters and cone bits and thin straight cutters.
Ex: BURNMASTER HAWK, PEN & 10-TIPS SET is ideal, but bring whatever you got. We will be making tips by the way.
He will bring his homemade monster burner with info on how to assemble one. Also, any acrylic paints, alcohol dyes, India ink and small cheap brushes.
