Bruce Blackketter (Joplin Area Woodturners) will be here this coming weekend and has offered to do a hands on class for thread chasing with us.
You will need a thread chaser and your basic tools (listed below - ask me any questions you have) He will be bringing a selection of pieces to both practice on and to make a threaded/lidded box.
General Tools
Spindle or Roughing gouge, something to make your spindle round.
A Skew or a square scraper to cut mortice for the female threads.
A grove cutter to cut a relief pocket at the back of the mortice.
A parting tool (lots of needs).
A point tool can be useful if you have one.
A four-jaw chuck.
Threading tools
A matched set of male and female thread chasers. To start I recommend 16 tpi chasers.
An arm rest tool is useful but not necessary. Mine is a piece of ΒΌβ diameter round bar hammered flat and bent at a short right angle at the end.
A short pencil or Allen wrench to check the squareness of your mortice or tenon.
